Short films scripts are the most intense 8-10 pages you can ever write. These films are often seen as a ‘calling card’ to the film industry, and the competition for limited funds has never been greater.
However, over 80% of scripts sent to producers or funding agencies do not get read because of problems with format, length or basic presentation. They could be great stories, but no one reads them.
The modern film audience is the most intelligent, sophisticated and genre-savvy audience you will ever have to work with. A writer who does not know genre rules and conventions is sailing down a river without a paddle, towards a rocky waterfall, full of sharks.
Failure to understand generic tropes fundamentally reduces the writer’s ability to communicate with their audience on both a structural and emotional level.
Knowing the difference between a romance and a ‘rom-com’, a thriller and a mystery film, or a ‘buddy movie’ and a ‘road movie’ – or any generic hybrid – is vital to the process of popular scriptwriting

This core introductory course outlines the essential roles, tasks and obstacles encountered by every producer.
DSLR CAMERA CLASS

These workshops cover a range of production areas and are customized to the needs of the film making industry.

This workshop will introduce a film maker/photographer with the knowledge base required to start taking on projects in the new field of DSLR motion capture. This workshop will look at some of the mistakes often made when shooting on DSLR cameras, and provide a good technical understanding of the medium. This course is suitable for all levels.
Filmmaker Bootcamp” is an intensive five day work experience program that is run annually for participants aged 15-17 who need to undertake an industry placement as part of their SACE.
Each group is given the challenge of making a film or TVC that reflects on a particular theme. By the end of the placement each participant will have insight into all the filmmaking processes and career pathways. All participants will be taught about industry protocol and the responsibility of each production department.
The MRC’s 2013 Work Experience Bootcamp will be run during the December Holidays. (December 2-6)During this Seven week course participants will learn basic silver jewellery making skills. Projects will include the design and production of a pendant piece and a silver ring. Participants will then be guided through their own self set project where they will design and make a piece of their own choice. Workshop to be delivered by Jam Factory Associates according to a program designed by Creative director, Christian hall.

In partnership with the Media Resource Centre, the Arts Law Centre is pleased to present a seminar on the legal issues affecting screen creators. This short course will explain the basics of copyright law in relation to film, contracts and chain of title.
They will also discuss legal issues concerning working online, such as online collaborative projects and online distribution.
