Short films scripts are the most intense 8-10 pages you can ever write. These films are often seen as a ‘calling card’ to the film industry, and the competition for limited funds has never been greater.
However, over 80% of scripts sent to producers or funding agencies do not get read because of problems with format, length or basic presentation. They could be great stories, but no one reads them.
The modern film audience is the most intelligent, sophisticated and genre-savvy audience you will ever have to work with. A writer who does not know genre rules and conventions is sailing down a river without a paddle, towards a rocky waterfall, full of sharks.
