Overview
The Media Resource Centre (MRC) in Adelaide, South Australia is a member of Screen Development Australia, a national network of organisations which support the development of a strong, innovative and diverse screen industry in Australia.
The MRC provides entry-level to early-career film and digital media makers with access to production equipment, subsidy programs and advice on all aspects of professional and project development, production and marketing.
The MRC manages the Mercury Cinema, which delivers a unique screening program to Adelaide audiences and provides local practitioners with the opportunity to screen their works.

Silent reMasters 2007

CALL FOR ENTRIES

Applications are now open for composers, musicians, bands, DJs and sound artists to re-score one of three classic silent films. The winner will receive a $1200 honorarium to create a new score and the opportunity to play it live at the Mercury Cinema as part of the Adelaide Cinematheque 2008 program.

SAFC & MRC Tropfest Short Film Production Initiative

The Media Resource Centre and the South Australian Film Corporation have launched the Tropfest Short Film Production Initiative.

This initiative will assist South Australian filmmakers to make their best possible short film for entry into the 2009 Tropfest competition.

The Tropfest Short Film Production Initiative, a first in Australia, will give three South Australian filmmaking teams $10,000 cash each plus $5,000 in-kind access to equipment and facilities.

Applications will be received for short films in any genre that comply with the Tropfest national guidelines. Films must be no longer than 7 minutes (incl credits) and include the Tropfest Signature item, ‘Spring’. The production initiative is open to SA filmmakers, over the age of 18 and who have completed at least one independent (non-student) production.

All of the films made through the initiative will screen at the Tropfest event in Adelaide on Sunday 22 February 2009.

Entries close 5pm Friday 10 October 2008.

Filmmakers Boot Camp Update

Filmmakers Bootcamp is on again this weekend, and it's free! Kids between the ages of 13-17 are encouraged to join in. Kids will make 3-4 min movies about the environment. They practice shooting editing and cutting their own film whilst working groups with other filmmakers. It's lots of fun and a chance to have your say on environmental stuff. If you want to join in or have a friend that wants to come along just call the MRC to book in on 8410 0979.

Final Cut Pro Workshop: 6 & 7 September

This intensive workshop offers an introduction to Final Cut Pro.

The workshop covers digitising, batch capture with time code, working with wide screen, editing footage and sound, creating titles and effects and outputting the final product to videotape.

Part art, part artifice, a great movie score can give a picture a larger than life quality that elevates both the senses and the cinema. A score can impose or betray emotion, build tension or even create character out of a previously flat performance!

Portable Film Festival Symposium - Watch The Video

On Wednesday 13 August, the MRC hosted the Portable Film Festival event 'In Conversation with Andrew Baron', creator of rocketoom.com.

It was evening full of new ideas, new ways of thinking about content distribution, and hints of cool places to hang out online.

For those who missed it, Emma Brasier was there with her camera, to give us the edited highlights.

ADG Conference - Registrations Are Now Open

The Australian Directors Guild Conference will be held at the Australian Film Television and Radio School, Moore Park, Sydney from 25 – 29 September 2008 in conjunction with the Australian Directors Guild Awards to be held on 27 September 2008. The ADG Conference is a premier four day event aimed at directors working across drama and documentary sectors. Conference delegates will also include producers, screenwriters, representatives from government funding agencies, film and television students and other industry professionals. The program will be a mix of plenary sessions, informative workshops and master classes, providing delegates with a substantial opportunity to advance their professional development and education.

Call for Cast and Crew for I Can See Queerly Now 2008!

We're looking for people who are interested in volunteering as either cast or crew on one of this year's ICSQN films which will be screened as part of the 2008 Feast Festival on the 28th of November at the Mercury Cinema.

Company '08 - Call For Crews!
The Company '08 teams are off and running and need your help!

We're looking for volunteers to crew the three short films. We're looking for people with experience, or people with none who are interested in learning the craft of film-making.

Digital Camera Donations

The Media Resource Centre is about to undertake a series of projects in regional South Australia and is looking for older model digital still cameras (3.2 mega pixel +) and digital video cameras (mini DV or DVCAM) in order to assist communities in creating their stories on screen.

GAMESLAB v2.0 - POSTPONED Date TBC
Have you ever wanted to make your own computer game? Or learn about how to get started in the electronic games industry? Then GamesLab is for you.

GamesLab will be presented by Greg Wieder, formerly of Carnegie Mellon University and over the course of six weeks participants will participate in a series of workshops presented by Greg and other local games experts where an element of games production is broken down and studied.

Participants will work in teams to create their own flash game by the end of the course. There will be sessions with local electronic games industry representatives to talk about how they started up their businesses in Adelaide and at the end of the six-week Lab participants will be offered the opportunity to tour an Adelaide games studio to see the set-up and talk about getting into the industry.

All games created in the first version of Gameslab plus work in progress demonstrations of Gameslab v2.0 games will be showcased as part of the Mercury Cinema’s event screening of the awesome documentary King of Kong.

Only eight places are remaining so book now.
